A382 Pepperdon Hall Lane – Update from Devon County Council

Devon County Council has provided an update on the ongoing works to support a section of the A382 at Pepperdon Hall Lane.

Engineers have encountered particularly challenging and unforeseen ground conditions, requiring the installation of sheet piles in addition to the originally designed works. This has resulted in a significant delay to the programme.

Once the area was dewatered, further sections of the wall were found to be in worse condition than expected. These areas have required additional stabilisation and the filling of scour holes to ensure the long‑term safety of the structure.

To recover time, the contractor has altered the order of works, carried out weekend working, and used alternative materials to fill the excavation once the concrete retaining structures are in place. However, the main concrete structures must reach the required strength before traffic can safely be allowed back onto the closed section of road.

DCC has advised that they are currently unsure whether the A382 can reopen on Friday 28 August. It is more likely that reopening will take place the following week, initially under traffic lights. Further updates will be provided as soon as more certainty is available.

The Parish Council will continue to share information as it is received.
