Moretonhampstead Parish Council is the first tier of local government and the one closest to the community, serving Moretonhampstead’s residents, businesses and visitors. The Parish Council operates at a level below the District and County Councils and can help on a number of local issues, such as providing play areas and grants to help local organisations. The Parish Council has written in support of the Business Group to request a review of the planned A382 summer closure and seek measures to lessen its impact on the town.

The UK’s copper landline network is being switched off by January 2027. Some residents—especially those with telecare alarms or no mobile—may need to take simple steps. A free checklist is available to help households prepare.
Devon County Council has confirmed the dates for the A382 summer closure and provided photographs showing the condition of the retaining wall. The Parish Council remains concerned about the timing and continues to press for clear communication and steps to reduce the impact on the town.
