Moretonhampstead Parish Council is the first tier of local government and the one closest to the community, serving Moretonhampstead’s residents, businesses and visitors. The Parish Council operates at a level below the District and County Councils and can help on a number of local issues, such as providing play areas and grants to help local organisations. Devon County Council will carry out surface dressing and associated works across Teignbridge between May and September 2026. Roads will close for short periods, with advance warning signs placed locally. Full details are available in the attached DCC leaflets.
A well‑attended and lively Annual Parish Meeting coffee morning brought together local groups, councillors and residents.
The government is consulting on proposals to reorganise local government in Devon into new unitary councils. The Parish Council has responded, highlighting concerns for Dartmoor communities, rural representation and the administrative burden on small parishes.
Moretonhampstead’s precept will rise by 25% for 2026/27. This reflects rising service costs and preparation for future responsibilities, while still remaining below the Teignbridge average.
