Moretonhampstead Parish Council is the first tier of local government and the one closest to the community, serving Moretonhampstead’s residents, businesses and visitors. The Parish Council operates at a level below the District and County Councils and can help on a number of local issues, such as providing play areas and grants to help local organisations. Dartmoor National Park Authority has opened a six‑week Scoping Consultation for the emerging Local Plan 2026, seeking early views on the plan’s vision, scope, performance of the current plan, and how the Authority should engage with communities.
The Government has confirmed major changes to local government in Devon. Moretonhampstead will join the new Devon Coast and Countryside Council in 2028.
Moretonhampstead Parish Council celebrated Cllr Mike Jeffery’s 50 years of service on 26 June, recognising his decades of council work, public service and community volunteering. A commemorative plate was presented, alongside a slideshow of his contributions.
The Parish Council has written in support of the Business Group to request a review of the planned A382 summer closure and seek measures to lessen its impact on the town.
