A382 Closure: DCC Confirms Dates and Provides Engineering Update

Devon County Council (DCC) has confirmed that the A382 will be closed from Monday 20 July to Friday 28 August 2026 to allow essential retaining wall repairs, drainage works and resurfacing to take place. DCC has advised that these dates are now fixed following coordination between the contractors involved.

The Parish Council has consistently raised concerns about the timing of the closure, particularly its impact on local businesses, residents and visitors during the peak summer period. The Council asked DCC to consider bringing the works forward by three weeks to help reduce disruption, but DCC has confirmed that the dates cannot be changed.

DCC has provided photographs showing the current condition of the retaining wall, including areas of collapse, rotation and deterioration. These images illustrate the engineering need for the works and the reasons why the road cannot safely remain open during construction.

The Parish Council remains concerned about the cumulative impact of the closure and will continue to press for clear communication with residents and businesses, and for all possible steps to be taken to reduce the impact on the town.

Further updates will be provided once DCC confirms the contractor and final programme.
