St Andrew’s Churchyard Celebrates Bronze Award – Help Us Aim Higher Next Year

St Andrew’s Churchyard has been awarded a Bronze Award in the BRAMM Cemetery of the Year Awards, recognising the care and attention given to maintaining this important community space. The council is pleased with this result and is already looking ahead to improving further next year.

As part of our ongoing efforts, we would like to remind residents that plastic flowers are not permitted on graves. They deteriorate quickly, blow around the churchyard and surrounding area, and create significant litter. During a tidy‑up this morning, our team removed a full wheelie bin of plastic flowers, along with glass bottles, broken pots and other rubbish. With the very dry summer and strong winds, debris has been spreading more than usual.

We ask everyone to help us take pride in the churchyard by keeping memorials compliant and removing items that may pose a safety risk or contribute to wind‑blown litter. Working together, we can aim for silver – or even gold – in next year’s awards.
