A382 Road Closure: Progress Update from Devon County Council

Devon County Council has provided an update on the A382 road closure and the progress of the repair works now underway. The scheme began as planned on Monday 20 July, and the on‑site team reports that good progress has been made during the first week.

The vegetation, old fence and the earth above the retaining wall have been removed, and excavation has begun in preparation for constructing the new wall. Low water levels in the Wray Brook have made diverting the flow straightforward, allowing the workforce to continue without interruption. Drainage works are also progressing well, and the full road closure is enabling crews to carry out their duties safely and efficiently.

DCC has shared photos of the excavations to date, and further images will be provided as the works reach their maximum extent. These will help illustrate why temporary traffic lights were not feasible for this scheme.

DCC has also reported that some motorcyclists have attempted to use the Wray Valley Trail as an alternative route past the closure, despite “No Motorcycles” signs being in place at both ends. This is unsafe and residents are asked to help reinforce that the trail is not a through‑route for vehicles.

Overall, DCC has confirmed they are pleased with how the scheme is progressing and will continue to provide updates as the works move forward. The Parish Council will share further information as soon as it is received.
