No Dog Poo Fairy: Parish Urges Owners to Pick Up and Report Fouling

Dog fouling is a growing issue in the parish. There’s no Dog Poo Fairy to clean up, so owners are urged to bag it, bin it, and report problem areas to TDC. Public‑health risks and new poop‑bag holders highlighted.

Fairy carrying a dog poop bag

Dog fouling continues to be a concern across the parish, and the Council is reminding residents that—despite popular myth—there is no Dog Poo Fairy quietly tidying up after our four‑legged friends. If there were, we’d happily give her a hi‑vis jacket and a very long-handled scoop.

While most dog owners do act responsibly, a small number of persistent offenders are creating unpleasant and unsafe conditions on our footpaths, verges and play areas. Dog mess isn’t just an eyesore; it can carry harmful bacteria and parasites such as toxocariasis, which poses a particular risk to children.

To help everyone stay prepared, owners can purchase neoprene dog‑poop bag holders with lead attachments—ideal for avoiding the classic “I forgot a bag” moment.

Residents are also encouraged to play their part in tackling the issue. If you spot dog fouling that hasn’t been cleared, or notice repeated problem areas, please report it to Teignbridge District Council. These reports help the enforcement team target hotspots and take action where needed.

Together, we can keep our parish clean, safe and welcoming for everyone—two‑legged and four‑legged alike.
